Lieutenant Governor Award for Distinguished Achievement bestowed upon Dr. Jim Montgomery

Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, Vancouver, February 6, 2010 – The Consulting Engineers of Alberta (CEA) bestowed their highest honour upon Dr. C. James (Jim) Montgomery P. Eng., at the organization’s annual Showcase Awards Gala held at Calgary’s Round Up Centre. The CEA Lieutenant Governor’s Award for Distinguished Achievement recognizes the achievement and contribution of the recipient to the consulting engineering industry in Alberta. In addition, the Award celebrates the recipient’s accomplishments in their technical and social communities. An achiever and leader by almost any definition, Jim Montgomery, businessman, teacher, researcher, innovator, and consulting structural engineer, accepted the award on February 5th in the company of his engineering colleagues, friends, and industry peers.
A doctoral engineering graduate of the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, one the top structural engineering research institutes in the world, a structural engineering graduate of the University of Alberta, APEGGA Gold Medalist, a Fellow of the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering, and a professional engineer registered in four provinces, Dr. Montgomery has enjoyed a diverse and stellar career. With beginnings as professor in the University of Alberta’s Department of Civil Engineering, then as a partner at Lamb McManus Associates Ltd., Jim Montgomery is best recognized as the financial, business, and engineering team leader of Cohos Evamy integratedesignTM where he leads by setting the highest professional standards in terms of practice management, engineering, and commitment to the profession.
Following a visual presentation of his career and accomplishments, Jim Montgomery expressed his gratitude by stating, “I am humbled by the receipt of this award, as I consider it a privilege and an honour to be included with the group of outstanding engineers that have received this award in the past. I believe that consulting engineers must want to do many things to be successful, but need to do one important thing; they need to make a difference. Through our work we have the opportunity and the responsibility to make the world a better place to live in. That’s the challenge.”
An avid cyclist and member of Edmonton’s Juventus Club, Jim and his wife Jane Montgomery live in Edmonton and are proud parents of two sons.
